Cartagena Protocol Belgian Focal Point
According to article 19 of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, each Party shall designate one national focal point to be responsible on its behalf for liaison with the Secretariat.

BCH Belgian Focal Point
Article 20 of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety establishes a Biosafety Clearing-House (BCH) in order to facilitate the exchange of scientific, technical, environmental and legal information on, and experience with, living modified organisms. According to Decision BS-I/3 adopted by the First Meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol (MOP-1), Parties are called upon to designate a national BCH focal point to liaise with the Secretariat regarding issues of relevance to the development and implementation of the BCH.

Point of contact for notifications of unintentional transboundary movements
According to Article 17 of the Protocol each Party shall, no later than the date of entry into force of the Protocol for it, make available to the BCH the relevant details setting out its point of contact for the purposes of receiving notifications related to occurrences under its jurisdiction resulting in a release that leads, or may lead, to an unintentional transboundary movement of a living modified organism that is likely to have significant adverse effects on the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity, taking also into account risks to human health.
